Bull Bull - Niu Niu - is one of the most adaptable card games in Asia. Its variants change who banks, how many players sit down and how long the betting lasts.

The base game, briefly

Five cards are dealt to each player. You split them into a group of three and a group of two, where the three-card group must total a multiple of ten. The remaining two cards then give your bull value from Bull 1 up to Bull Bull, the strongest ordinary hand.

Special hands such as five small cards, five face cards and four of a kind rank above Bull Bull. If no three-card group totals a multiple of ten, the hand is a 'no bull' and loses to any qualified hand.

Hundred-Person Bull

The hundred-person format removes the player seats entirely. One hand is dealt to each of four positions – typically labelled with a colour or a number – and every betting player wagers on which position will win.

This structure lets hundreds of players participate in a single deal, which is why it dominates mobile Asian lobbies. It also removes any decision-making beyond bet selection, making it the simplest form of the game.

Banker Bull and the banking advantage

In Banker Bull, one player acts as banker and covers all the other seats. Because the banker compares every hand against their own, they win the majority of marginal comparisons and carry a structural advantage.

Seats acquire the banking role by rotation, by auction, or by betting the largest amount. Playing as the banker changes the risk profile substantially: you can win several bets at once, or lose several at once.

Pro tip

Learn the three-card split first. Once you can total to ten instantly, the rest of Bull Bull is arithmetic.

Only which position to back and how much to bet.
